Daniel Rocha talks to Supplement Judge

For this interview we talk to Daniel “DROC” Rocha. A NPC National Athlete soon to be IFBB Pro.

From business owner to fitness enthusiast, Daniel takes what he does seriously.  He puts the same amount of attention in his family as he does his clients.  To him, each one is important.  His journey has been a long one, but through it all, bodybuilding gave him the life he lives today.

Could you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

Always wanted to be a professional athlete… did gymnastics, played futbol, then I became a bodybuilder.  Each one did me well and gave me the discipline I have now

How long have you been training for?

I’ve been living like a pro since 2003.  Taking my training, nutrition seriously has been the focus.  I’ve had to deal with life’s obstacles so this journey has been an interesting one

How did you get started in training?

When I finished playing futbol, I was a whole 120lbs … man it was tough I didn’t even realize how small I was.  EAS Body for Life got me started
Who got you motivated to start training?

Really myself… I felt inadequate in the dating seen in college.  I was the itty bitty guy.  So I wanted my body to match my mindset.
What are your short and long term fitness goals?

Right now… earn my IFBB Pro card at this years NPC USA.  Long term, grow my fitness online company giving me more time with my family and son.  It will be nice to compete as a Pro and make at least 1 Mr Olympia stage

What workout routine has worked best for you?

Seriously… John Meadows my trainer and his program has ignited new growth and made me feel like I should have been doing this years ago.

Could you outline your basic daily diet?

Off season I follow a 45/50/12 ratio for my diet.  Calories can go up to 5000.   Contest prep my ratios go to 40/ 0-20 / 10 depending on what phase I am in,  keeping calories at 2000-3000

Do you use supplements? If so, what do you recommend?

I am a contracted athlete with MRI Performance.  I use NO2 Red, Hemo surge, Pro-NOS as the baseline for my supplements.

Do you have post/pre-workout meals? What’s your favourite?

MRI Pro-NOS with almond or peanut butter… yea…I enjoy that

How do you deal with things such as hunger and cravings?

Cucumbers… I eat a lot of cucumbers

Do you have any cheat meals?

Once a week…no matter what.  I owe it to my family.  They deserve to be taken out.  Plus it gives my mind a good break and allows me to enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

What is your biggest motivation to get you back in the gym?

How I look. I take progress pics every week.  If I don’t look good in a pic…I change things up.

If you could go back in time, what would you change in your training?

Hire the trainer earlier.  I would of and should have been an IFBB Pro already.  But this is my path and I have accepted it.

Any advice for beginners or anyone looking to get back into fitness?

Yes… take the basics seriously.  Learn nutrition now.  don’t get caught up in the magazine hype.  If you can, hire a good trainer/nutritionist early in your career.

What advice do you to anyone looking to lose weight in time for summer?

Same as the above.  This whole sport, fitness industry is about diet and nutrition.  You can work out till your blue on the face but wont see any change until you change your eating habits
